SPICE TOUR
A wonderful opportunity to see spices like cloves, Cinnamon,
Black pepper, Nutmeg, turmeric root, actually growing
in the plantations. Other tropical fruits such as jack
fruit, custard, apple, Rambutan, Carambola can also be
seen and tasted. Furthermore you will see plants like
the Henna bush, Lipstick tree and Lemongrass. Finally
you will visit the Kidichi Persian Baths that were built
by the first Sultan of Zanzibar named Sultan Said Said
bin Sultan in 1850 and Maruhubi Palace Ruins built by
the third Sultan of Zanzibar named Sultan Said Baraghash
Bin Said in 1880 which were built especially for housing
99 of his harem. Sensible shoes and hats are advisable.
STONE TOWN TOUR
the three and half-hours tour starts at the House of
Wonder (the first long building and had had Electricity
in east Africa). We then proceed to the Sultan’s
Palace which now is a museum then to the Old Indian
Dispensary, Livingstone House and Market (opened 1904),
Where local fruits and vegetables are sold. The Anglican
Church, (1873).Which was built on the site of the old
slave market), State House, and We pass Zanzibar Museum
(1925) no longer used. On our way, we pass, the High-
court of Zanzibar, Tip tipu House, the first British
High Commission, Jamituri garden, and we end our tour
the old fort building (1698 – 1701)
Dolphin Tour
Swimming and playing with dolphin is another wonderful
experience. Several dolphin groups are found around
the island, but mainly near the south tip. They follow
boats and if you dive in, with them they will swim and
play around you. Good swimmers will be able to get very
close and even touch the dolphins. This is a most rewarding
half-day trip that can be arranged from most parts of
the island.
Prison Island Tour
This small island, a few kilometers west of Zanzibar
town has a horrible history. Safely away from Unguja
and yet always within view of Zanzibar town, it was
first used by an Arab slave merchant to detain recalcitrant
slaves. In the 1890s a General Matthews bought the island
and built what be intended as the prison for Zanzibar.
The building was, however, never used as such. Later,
it became a quarantine station for Zanzibar, Kenya,
Uganda and then Tanganyika. Today Prison Island is known
for its giant tortoises. It offers excellent views of
Zanzibar town, fine bathing and snorkeling. We can arrange
for an excellent boat captain to escort you. Be sure
to have $1.00 to pay admission to the park
Jozani Forest Tour
We encourage you to take at least a small walk through
the rainforest, which is uniquely beautiful and very
peaceful. If you have any doubts about other mammals
having personality, character and choice of behavior,
make sure you spend enough time in the rainforests to
see the Red Colobus monkeys who shun the cheap feasts
provided by tourists along the road. Just as in our
human community, there are introverts and extroverts
- or normal people and showmen ~ the Red Colobus monkeys
along the road will do anything for a banana. Those
that remain deeper in the forest, however, maintain
a shy dignity and a grace which is poignantly beautiful.
Tour to the North
This trip leads you through the Mangapwani cave which
is a 30minute drive from Zanzibar town, upto 1911 the
cave was a secret hideout from which the slaves were
illegaly led out to the sea through a secret passage
and then transported by dhow after the official closure
of the Slave Market in June 1873. The tour then proceeds
to Nungwi in the North of Zanzibar which is an hours
drive from the cave. Nungwi has crystal clear waters
an excellent place for diving, snorkelling, swimming
and sunbathing. As Zanzibar is a turtle conservation
area you will be able to see the natural turtle aquarium
here. In this tour we also take you to a site where
local villagers build dhows and boats todate using traditional
tools. |
